YESTERDAY I attended the 20th Loyola Schools Awards for the Arts as part of this year’s selection committee. I sat as member of the sub-committee for creative writing, and presented the awardees during the Dalisayan program held at Escaler Hall, where I made a booboo when I skipped the name of one awardee and almost forgot to call her name. (I made a similar mistake when I first posted the list of awardees on my FB weeks ago and mentioned one awardee’s name twice and failed to mentioned another’s.) Now, for the record, I’d again like to congratulate all the awardees, especially the recipients for creative writing: Nicko Caluya, Deirdre Camba, Vida Cruz, Sab Cuerva, Mirick Paala and Paolo Tiausas. We received many nominations and applications for creative writing this year, but these six stood out. (I was tasked to write the citations for Caluya and Tiausas—and because they were only used during our plenary deliberations, I’ll just post them later here in Atisan.)
